The first thing you will need to know to play Castle Story is how to control the camera. Controlling your point of view will allow you to observe and navigate the playing field. Castle Story is unique in how it allows you to freely control the camera in 3 dimensions.

See Hotkeys for other useful controls.

Here are the basic controls for the camera:

You can zoom in the camera by scrolling your mousewheel up or by holding the Z key.

To zoom out, scroll your mousewheel down or hold the X key.

You can raise the camera pivot by holding shift and scrolling your mousewheel up. To lower the camera pivot, hold shift and scrolling your mousewheel down.

You can toggle the camera pivot being locked to the ground by pressing V.

You can rotate the camera horziontally by holding Q or E.

You can rotate the camera vertically by holding shift and Q or holding shift and E.

You can also rotate the camera freely by dragging the middle mouse button or pressing the arrow keys.

To pan the camera, press the WASD keys, or by hold space and drag with the left mouse button.
